Volkswagen has expanded the engine options for its popular models—the Tiguan, Passat, and the newly introduced Tayron—by introducing more powerful 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engines paired with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. This enhancement not only boosts performance but also increases towing capacities, making these vehicles more versatile for various driving needs.
Engine Options and Performance:
•Tiguan and Tayron: Both SUVs are now available with two variants of the 2.0 TSI 4Motion engine:
•204 PS (150 kW) version, delivering a maximum torque of 320 Nm from as low as 1,400 rpm.
•265 PS (195 kW) version, offering an increased torque of 400 Nm starting at 1,650 rpm.
•Passat: The Passat comes exclusively with the 265 PS (195 kW) 2.0 TSI 4Motion engine, providing robust performance suitable for both daily commutes and longer journeys.
Towing Capacities:
•Tiguan and Passat: Capable of towing trailers weighing up to 2,200 kg (braked, with a 12% gradient).
•Tayron: Depending on the specific equipment and configuration, it can tow loads up to 2,500 kg under similar conditions.
All-Wheel-Drive System:
The 4Motion system intelligently manages power distribution between the front and rear axles to optimize traction and fuel efficiency. Under normal driving conditions, power is primarily sent to the front wheels to conserve fuel. When additional traction is needed—such as during acceleration or on slippery surfaces—the system seamlessly engages the rear wheels.
For vehicles equipped with an optional tow hitch, the 4Motion system features a “Trailer” driving profile. Upon detecting a connected trailer, the system adjusts power distribution to enhance stability and control, ensuring a safer towing experience.
Pricing:
•Tiguan 2.0 TSI 4Motion: Starts at €48,175.
•Tayron 2.0 TSI 4Motion: Begins at €50,770.
•Passat 2.0 TSI 4Motion: Priced from €62,990.
These prices correspond to the “Life” trim level for the Tiguan and Tayron, while the Passat is offered in the “R-Line” trim, reflecting its sportier positioning.
With these updates, Volkswagen aims to provide drivers with enhanced performance options and greater versatility, catering to those who require both dynamic driving experiences and substantial towing capabilities.
